SPC vs WPC Flooring Lines: Choose the Product Before the Machine

Compare SPC and WPC flooring production routes by core structure, forming requirements and finishing scope before preparing an equipment investment brief.

An SPC or WPC flooring line should be selected around the product you intend to sell, rather than the abbreviation on the quotation. Start with a floor sample, its layer structure and intended installation. These details determine whether suppliers are discussing the same material and manufacturing route. Comparing two unnamed “complete lines” can otherwise conceal substantial differences in equipment scope.

Clarify what WPC means in your project

For indoor rigid-core flooring, RFCI distinguishes solid polymer core SPC from expanded polymer core WPC. Indoor WPC therefore should not automatically be specified as a wood-flour-filled product. Natural-fiber PVC boards and PE-based outdoor wood-composite decking are separate projects. An outdoor deck profile is not interchangeable with a laminated indoor click floor simply because both have been described as WPC.

Compare the forming task

For SPC, ask how the proposed formulation will be plasticized, distributed through the sheet die and formed into a consistent substrate. For expanded-core flooring, ask how the selected route controls the core structure and supports the intended surface layers. For outdoor decking, confirm the polymer, fiber preparation and profile design instead. Request a process drawing for each proposal; the drawing should follow your target product rather than an unrelated catalog example.

Include the complete finishing route

Core extrusion alone does not define a finished flooring factory. Identify decorative and wear layers, surface treatment, cooling or conditioning, cutting and any locking-profile machining. Underlay and packaging requirements also need a supply decision. A route that produces sheets may leave several finishing operations to existing equipment or another supplier. Record those boundaries before comparing quotations, including the responsibility for moving material between stages and handling production scrap.

Decide with representative samples

Ask for a trial plan tied to your floor structure and material recipe. Compare usable output, thickness consistency, surface bonding and the checks needed for your intended flooring specification. Agree which measurements are made during the run and which require conditioned samples or separate testing. A trial on another product is useful background but does not settle your project requirements. Send Jiahao the product drawing, sample, factory layout and finishing needs to start a scope discussion rather than choosing solely by the SPC or WPC label.
